Are you interested in becoming involved with a Christian community, developing a deeper sense of the Scriptures, praying regularly, and leading a life of service? The Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) process prepares unbaptized adults (Catechumens) for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil and prepares previously baptized Christians of other denominations (Candidates) for full reception into the Church. The R.C.I.A. Team, composed of members of the pastoral staff, volunteer catechists, and sponsors, meet regularly with the catechumens and candidates throughout the liturgical year to form them for a life of faith, prayer, and service within the Roman Catholic Tradition. Director of Religious Education - Helene Matecki - (269) 792-2829 - Email: hmatecki@yahoo.com R.C.I.A. Director - Rusty Dutkiewicz - (616) 681-9330 - Email: rustydutki@webtv.com Mutual discernment of one's ability and preparedness to become Catholic occurs between the individual and the team members throughout the four stages of the RCIA. Precatechumenate: This stage is also referred to as the period of inquiry and evangelization. Men and women from varied backgrounds gather to study Scripture and ask questions about the Church, faith, Scripture, and any other topic that may be of interest. Catechumenate: This period of serious faith formation can last for months or even years depending on the individual and his or her needs. It is a time to look closely at the teachings of the Church, sacred Scripture, prayer, and discover the riches of the Roman Catholic Tradition. Period of Purification and Enlightenment: This immediate preparation time occurs during the season of Lent, just prior to the Easter season. Catechumens and Candidates discern with the RCIA Team to ascertain their preparedness to become a full member of the Catholic Church. It is a time of deepening prayer, rediscovery of The Lord's Prayer and the Creed of the Church. Mystagogy: A period of reflection that begins after one has been fully initiated into the Church. Newly initiated men and women (neophytes) reflect upon their entrance into the Church and how their new found faith blossoms in their lives. |
